Carpet Care 101 – A Muddy Season is Upon Us

It’s becoming a rainy spring here in Philly and with the rain, comes muddy feet. If you have pets or kids, you’ve definitely got mud on your rugs.

All too often, we think it’s best to wash the mud away with more water. Well, don’t be in a rush to wash that wet dirt away. Here are a few tips to tackle mud and dirt, the right way, to maintain the life of your carpets.

Do’s

  • Let mud dry completely before attempting to clean
  • Vacuum up loose dirt thoroughly
  • Apply Capture cleaning granules (dry treatment) as directed
  • For tough stains, use Capture spray as directed
  • Steam clean carpets every 18-24 months, but use no shampoo

Don’ts

  • Wet the dirt spot, this makes the stain more deeply set
  • Shampoo carpets, just use hot water for steam extraction
  • Use soap in carpet cleaners, soap residue attracts more dirt
  • Wet carpets too much when using spray spot treatments, just lightly mist solvents on carpet fibers

Capture cleaning products are available at flooring and home improvement centers. Read more information about Capture at www.captureclean.com.

HIP Tip-

To keep your carpets looking great as long as possible, vacuuming often is key. Invest in a good vacuum to keep loose dirt out of carpet fibers. High traffic areas should be vacuumed every 1-2 days for longer wear. Yes, that’s a chore but it will add life to your investment.
