I have one very smart dog, she gets the paper every day rain or shine. If only I could teach her to wipe her paws. If you have a pooch, you know the angst of wet muddy paws coming in after they do their business. Then it is your business to deal with the mud on your rugs!
Here are a few tips to tackle that mud and dirt the right way:
Do
- let mud dry completely before attempting to clean
- vacuum up loose dirt thoroughly
- apply Capture cleaning granules (dry treatment) as directed
- for tough stains, use Capture spray as directed
- steam clean carpets every 18-24 months, but use no shampoo
Don’t
- wet the dirt spot, this makes stain more deeply set
- shampoo carpets, just use hot water for steam extraction
- use soap in carpet cleaners, the soap residue attracts more dirt
- wet carpets to much when using spray spot treatments, just lightly mist solvents on carpet fibers
HIP Tip
To keep your carpets looking great as long as possible, vacuuming often is key. Invest in a good vacuum to keep loose dirt out of carpet fibers. High traffic areas should be vacuumed every 1-2 days for longer wear. Yes, that’s a pain but it will add life to your investment.
