Hurricane Ida and my Basement

Tropical Storm IDA hit my hometown this week. An F2 Tornado ripped through my town of Horsham, PA. It passed 2 miles from my house. I am blessed that my home was spared from the tornado but the power outage and heavy rains did not pass us by.

I am running on little energy, me and the house!

We have been without power since 6pm Wednesday night. We have a generator so we are keeping the fridge, water heater and a few outlets going. The drone of the generator, trips to the gas station and constant flipping of wall switches that don’t work is getting old. We are inconvenienced but doing fine compared to others in the area. The power company says we will get power back Sunday at 11pm. Crossing fingers and waiting patiently. If you saw the damage in person you would understand how bad the situation is.

In the video below you can see the damage and that I’m getting emotional.

Our basement flooring did not fair so well. I’ll explain more in weeks to come but I spent 17 hours on Thursday ripping up and out soaked carpets and Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP). We are tired of cleaning and climbing stairs but it is one way to purge the basement. My new friend is HILDI, a 1969 wet vac. She’s an honorary HIP Chick now. She is dirty, gritty and works her ass off! I borrowed her from one of the local Heroes in the HIP Chicks Home Improvement Hero Academy.

In weeks to come, I’ll chat about storm preparedness, generators, flood clean up and navigating insurance claims. I was prepared and knew how to handle my home and I still have damage. YOU must step up and learn how to manage your home with confidence because if I wasn’t the HIP Chick it could have been a whole lot worse.
