Nothing like headed out for a relaxing week at the shore and finding a DIY project in your shore house!
My husband bumped a framed piece of art of the wall. He’s tall, it happens. Fortunately the frame and glass did not break, but the nail came out of the wall. So what’s a renter to do?
Here were the obstacles…
- The owners used a headless nail to hang art. BAD idea. Stringed art, hooks, saw teeth–however you hang it, your decor item needs a nail with a nice head to grip.
- I had no hammer. I thought of using a shoe but I was at the shore and only had flip-flops. Flip-flops don’t make good hammers!
- I did not have a good nail. I wanted a sturdy common nail with a head, but nothing was left in the junk drawer. NO pile of useless nails or screws. Not even a screwdriver to be found.
But no worries. I figured out how to hang the art by tapping into my inner MacGuyver!
Don’t have a hammer? Here’s an alternative!
Use a meat mallet!
And when you hammer the nail in, hammer at a downward angle so that the nail points upward. The wire on the frame will catch the nail much better, preventing future falls.
