Last night, I attended the Bucks County United Way’s Power of the Purse Event. It was a lovely event with 300 ladies and men dressed in their evening wear sharing cocktails, all gathered to support and empower local women’s causes. It was very inspiring. The Power of the Purse event is not about purses, although there were lovely bags in the silent auction. It is about the power of money to educate, empower and change lives of local women dealing with addiction, abuse, illness and homelessness.
Yes, there is homelessness in Bucks County, PA. We, as women do have the power to bring about change, locally and globally. Every time a woman is empowered she can be a healthier and stronger mom, wife, friend, volunteer, sister and mostly importantly, a happier human being.
On a lighter note, I sat with a lovely woman, Marianne, from the Peace Center in Langhorne, Pa. She told me she was empowered in her twenties by an older woman who told her this advice. To truly be a woman on your own, you should have three things: a fabulous black lace bra, 3 months rent in the bank and a tool box of your own! Well, let’s toast to that and do what we can to make sure every woman is empowered to have that and so much more.
